Exercise 1. Express these situations using conditional sentences type II.

1. John misses his favourite programmes. He should buy a video recorder.

John wouldn ’t miss his favourite programmes if he bought a video recorder.

2. Debra doesn’t have a car. She doesn’t go out in the evening.

3. They don’t read a lot. They can’t find the time.

4. He is overweight. He eats too much.

5. The room is cold. They leave the door open.

6. Her son doesn’t study hard. He hates school.

7. He is tired. He works twelve hours a day.

Answer

1. If Debra had a car, she would go out in the evening.

2. They would read a lot if they found the time.

3. He would not be overweight if he didn’t eat too much.

4. The room would not be cold if they didn’t leave the door open.

5. Her son would study hard if he didn’t hate school.

6. He would not be tired if he didn’t work twelve hours a day.

Exercise 2. Write a letter of about 150 words to your pen pal, telling him/her about the course and the university you've decided to send your application form. You may use the suggestions below to support your writing:

- name of the course

- name and location of the university

- reasons for your choice (school subjects that you are good at or interested in; scholarship available; reasonable tuition fee; job available after graduation; convenient location; ...)
